Teacher Information

Library Information

Carolyn Kinsella, district librarian, ckinsella@mchs.net alternates between campuses in two day blocks.  Check the online scheduler (explained below) to verify her location for the day.  Please collaborate with Carolyn about specific days and times for her to work with your classes. Valeria Tijerina mirrors Carolyn's attendance so when Carolyn is at South, Valerie is at Central and when Carolyn is at Central, Valerie is at South.  Tatiana Moore is the library assistant at Central and Kyle Robinson is the library assistant at South. Please email them with emergency needs.

Website - The site is linked from the mchs.net on the left side of the home page under “library”.
●      Please give Carolyn suggestions for improvement.
●      http://mchslibraries.weebly.com is the direct link for the site.

Resource Student Sign-up sheet

●      Resource passes to the library are done exclusively online.
●      A Google Sheet has been created for teachers to sign up students who need to use the library during resource.
●      This sheet is shared with teachers and staff.
●      Students with assignments requiring library access should ask their academic teacher to enter their information on the Library Resource Pass Sign-Up sheet.
●      The academic teacher who assigned work to be done in the library signs up the student on the Google Sheet
●      Students will not be permitted into the library without a school ID. A photo of the ID on a student’s phone is acceptable.
●      Resource teachers should check the Library Resource Pass Sheet before issuing the student a pass to the library.
  • Resource students are welcome in the library, even if a teacher has not signed them up prior to resource.  If a resource teacher opens the Google Sheet and sees there are empty spaces, the resource teacher may sign up students IF THE STUDENT HAS A SPECIFIC PURPOSE TO USE THE LIBRARY.  Being bored in resource is not a specific purpose. :)  Resource teachers need to include this purpose on the sheet.
  • If a student, who is signed up on the Google Sheet, is not coming to the library, the resource teacher needs to indicate why. Examples may be “absent, refused to go, went to English lab instead”, etc.  This way the library assistant is not waiting for him/her and the teacher who signed up the student can check to see if the student actually went to the library.
  • Students in the library will not be sent back to resource at the end of the hour.  The resource teacher can see if the student arrived by looking at the sheet.  If the ID number is next to the student’s name, he/she arrived.
  • If a student wants to return to resource prior to the end of the period, the library assistant will add the time the student leaves the library to the Google sheet.  The student will also have a stamped pass
  • Please be aware that because of larger class sizes there is a strong possibility there may not be a computer available for resource students.  If 3 classes of 30 are in the library, there are no computers for resource.
  • If you open the Google Sheet but cannot type on it be sure to Open in Drive.  You should then be able to add names.

Students in Classes (Not Resource)

●      Students who need to use the library during class are always welcome.
●      Please be sure to send every student with a pass and ID. If a student in class does not have an ID, the classroom teacher can verify the ID number with a signature.
